English CV audit — 15 October 2026
Independent audit only. No CV, website source, project note, email or application was changed. This report is the sole project deliverable.
Scope and method
Reviewed CV/tomassetti-cv-en.tex, the text extracted from its existing 28-page PDF (built 6 October 2026), repository AGENTS.md and MEMORY.md, vita.md, publications.md, recent_papers.md, and author-matching entries in library.bib. Compared the supplied RP_CV_Signed.pdf solely for professional structure and selection. Checked public personal-site pages, institutional repositories and announcements, publisher pages and publisher-deposited Crossref metadata on 15 October 2026. Line references below refer to the audited TeX, before any subsequent edits.
This is a content and textual presentation audit, not a page-by-page visual inspection or an exhaustive certification of every historical entry. Bibliography candidates were checked for title variants and publication type: a reference-manager entry alone is not evidence of a published paper. Some publisher/MUR pages returned access errors; where evidence is incomplete it is marked below. No facts about Giuseppe were inferred from Penta’s CV.
Verified defects and omissions
| Priority | Finding and evidence | Concrete correction |
|---|---|---|
| High | Two published journal papers are absent from the full CV: the 1998 universal-deformations paper and the September 2026 closed-rings paper. Both are confirmed by Springer; details below. | Add both to the full journal list, preserving accurate author order and DOI. |
| High | Opening “Previous positions” lists only Tor Vergata, ending January 2017 (lines 106–109). The 2017–2024 Roma Tre associate professorship is documented later (line 181); the Italian-university research-history subsection stops in 2024 despite the current full professorship stated at line 98. | Put all three appointments in one dated employment history and include 2024–present in the later history if that section is retained. This is an omission, not evidence of an actual career gap. |
| High | Teaching totals contradict the academic-year lists: “8 times” has ten years, 2016–17 through 2025–26 (line 1137); “1 time” for Technologies for the Sea has three years, 2023–24 through 2025–26 (line 1143). | Reconcile against teaching records; if the year lists are correct, counts should be ten and three. Prefer years alone to avoid future count drift. |
| Medium | Krömer–Tomassetti magnetostatics is still “accepted for publication” without a DOI (lines 1845–1847). Publisher-deposited Crossref metadata records online publication on 27 September 2026 and DOI 10.1177/10812865261477698. |
Update to published online, add DOI, and adopt the published title’s “single-field” hyphenation. Do not invent volume/pages: none were present in the retrieved metadata. |
| Medium | A complete GNFM subsection heading and its explanatory footnote remain Italian (lines 770–781); conference entries also retain “edito da”, “atti di convegno”, and Italian connective prose. | Translate headings and explanatory prose. Original Italian titles can remain, optionally followed by translations. |
| Medium | The foreign-visit list starts with two consecutive items numbered 1 because a new enumerate begins after Carnegie Mellon (lines 192–203; PDF p. 2). |
Use a single list or explicitly continue the numbering. |
| Medium | The thesis entry “Di Russo, 2026” is incomplete (line 1223); “Tesi Luca Lombardi … Roma Tre Univerisity” contains untranslated framing and a spelling error (line 1245). | Complete name, title, degree, institution and status from records; fix “University”. Confirm the student’s surname rather than guessing from another person called Luca. |
| Medium | “Annual research fellowship starting from March 1, 2024 until today” for Mohsen Damen (lines 833–835) now spans more than two years and does not explain renewal. | State verified contract periods/renewals or the actual end date. The wording is inconsistent; continued supervision itself is not disproved. |
| Low | Publication 68 uses author-year 2025 while citing volume 36/article 4 (2026); this may reflect online-first versus issue year, but the distinction is not explained. | Use a consistent bibliographic convention, optionally noting online publication separately. Do not infer an erroneous DOI from its 2025 component. |
| Low | Education is ordered 2002, 1997, 2005; most lists are oldest first, but the 2025 conference entries put December before September. | Adopt a consistent chronological policy, preferably newest first for a funding-facing CV. |
The CV includes red review markup in its source. This follows the repository’s review convention and is not an accidental editing defect. Produce a clean submission copy only after approval of corrections; retain the review version as needed.
Missing publications and publication-status checks
Confirmed omissions — high confidence
-
P. Podio-Guidugli and G. Tomassetti (1998), “Universal Deformations for a Class of Compressible Isotropic Hyperelastic Materials”, Journal of Elasticity 52, 159–166. DOI: 10.1023/A:1007580226188. The title and DOI occur in local
library.bib, but neither appears in the CV, whose journal list begins in 2001. Springer confirms both authors, year and pagination; Tor Vergata’s institutional record independently identifies it as a journal article. Add this to the full list. Sources: publisher, Tor Vergata repository. -
D. Ambrosi, A. Favata, R. Paroni, G. Tomassetti and S. Turzi (2026), “Shaping Closed Elastic Rings Through a Jump in Natural Curvature”, Journal of Nonlinear Science 36, article 108. DOI: 10.1007/s00332-026-10325-0. Already present in local
publications.md, absent from the CV source and PDF. Springer confirms publication on 26 September 2026, all five authors, and article number. Add this recent output. Publisher evidence.
Already present — update, do not duplicate
- On the single-field formulation in magnetostatics: confirmed DOI and online publication date above. Primary bibliographic evidence: Crossref publisher deposit; publisher DOI. The Sage landing page could not be read directly in this session; Crossref supplied the date and DOI.
- On the principle of virtual powers for magnetoelastic bodies: present as “in press” with the correct DOI. Crossref now supplies Mechanics Research Communications 158, 104806, with a December 2026 issue date. Add allocated volume/article metadata, but distinguish forthcoming issue allocation from proof that the issue has appeared by 15 October. Crossref deposit, publisher record.
- The recent stochastic-thermodynamics, thermal-dehydration, oncogenic-ducts, magneto-viscoelastic-laminates, growing-Cosserat-shell and magnetoelastic-homogenization papers are already present. They are not missing-publication findings.
Candidates not established as missing journal papers
- Equilibrium and self-stress of rigid origami structures (Micheletti, Ruscica, Tomassetti, 2017): local bibliography candidate; Tor Vergata classifies the item as a conference contribution. Consider adding it under conference contributions if the full record is desired; do not promote it to a journal paper or an indexed proceedings chapter without further evidence. High confidence in conference classification; proceedings metadata unverified.
- On a paradox from thin-film micromagnetics: local bibliography has author/title but no verified publication metadata. Low confidence as a published omission. Obtain manuscript/status evidence before adding.
- The bibliography also contains malformed records, old title variants, unrelated author-name matches and non-publication material. These were not counted as omissions. This targeted comparison does not establish that the remaining publication list is exhaustive.
Factual questions requiring reconciliation
- DISCOVER title, role history and funding basis (lines 759–766). The CV title “Unveiling embodied intelligence in natural systems for bioinspired actuator design” is corroborated by Giovanni Noselli’s institutional CV. The personal site instead expands DISCOVER as “Data-drIven diSCOvery of latent Variable-modElled Relations”; do not copy that expansion into the CV. Noselli explicitly identifies Giuseppe as PI, whereas an indexed 2023 MUR award annex names Alessandro Lucantonio for code 2022NNTZNM. A coordinator change could explain this. The MUR full document returned 403, so its table headings were not fully inspected. There is insufficient evidence to label Giuseppe’s PI claim false. Check the current award/amendment documentation and, if useful, state “PI since [verified date]”. Reconcile €276,578 against total project cost, awarded contribution and Roma Tre allocation; do not substitute a search-result amount. Sources: SISSA institutional CV, MUR annex, personal vita, research page.
- Degree translation: CV says Electronic Engineering; local/public vita says Electrical Engineering. Verify the official Italian degree name and use one accurate translation. The equivalence implied by “Master’s degree” should be intentional for a pre-Bologna Laurea. The evidence does not establish which English label is correct.
- IAC-CNR association: absent from the appointments/front matter. The closed-rings publisher record gives Giuseppe an IAC-CNR affiliation, supporting its scientific relevance, but a paper affiliation does not establish present contractual validity or renewal dates. For the CNR application, add the verified association and exact validity period from the appointment act; do not describe it as employment or imply a pending extension is granted.
- Recent visits: local
vita.mdrecords OIST 13 July–13 August 2026; the CV’s visit list ends with MIT in May 2026. Verify and add the completed OIST visit. The Canada award and September 2026 Vancouver talk are present, but a completed UBC research visit should be listed separately only with confirmed dates. The 2015 MIT end date also differs by one day between vita (3 April) and CV (2 April); check itinerary/appointment evidence. MIT’s campus location should normally be Cambridge, MA rather than Boston. - Award details: institutional Roma Tre announcements support both 2026 awards. The CV’s detailed CISM project title and program chronology were not independently established here. Retain the verified award, but verify these extra details or shorten them. Sources: CISM award announcement, Canada award announcement.
Structure and positioning — suggestions, not factual defects
The full CV documents a substantial record, but 28 pages and long administrative headings make recent strengths hard to find. Scientific publications begin late; extensive talk and reviewer detail precedes them. The award footnotes explain the schemes at disproportionate length.
Penta’s useful structural choices are explicit “Present Appointment” and “Employment History” sections, qualifications, esteem indicators, and dated role descriptions. Borrow that navigability. His CV is also extensive, so it does not establish a target page count or a requirement to copy every category. Do not copy personal-data fields simply because his CV contains them.
Two viable variants:
- Full archival CV: retain the comprehensive record, add a compact front-page research profile and complete appointment timeline, order major lists consistently, shorten boilerplate headings, and move exhaustive talks/review counts into later sections.
- Application CV: derive a shorter selection only after checking the actual CNR/RSE attachment rules. Lead with current role and verified IAC association, magnetoelasticity/homogenization/viscoelasticity expertise, relevant funding leadership and supervision, then selected publications. The 2025 laminates paper, 2026 homogenization, virtual-powers and single-field papers are especially relevant to this proposal. Label the publication list “Selected” if incomplete and link to the full CV.
Useful additions are a personal-site link, a short research-interests summary, and explicit dates/status for current appointments and students. ORCID is already included. Bibliometric claims, languages, extra honours, grant amounts or supervision totals should not be added without evidence. The repeated personal-data authorization paragraphs could be consolidated for a submission-specific copy if the form permits; this report makes no legal-compliance determination. The automatic \today changes the displayed signature date at every build, so check it deliberately when preparing a signed copy.
Prioritised correction sequence and verdict
- Add the two verified missing papers; update the magnetostatics DOI/status and allocated MRC metadata.
- Repair the employment timeline, teaching-count contradictions, numbering and unfinished thesis entries.
- Verify IAC association dates, DISCOVER role/budget history, degree translation, fellowship renewals and recent visits against primary records.
- Translate remaining Italian prose and produce a clean, consistently ordered CV; prepare a separate selected version if the application calls for it.
Verdict: strong substantive record, but the current English CV is not yet a clean submission copy. The confirmed omissions and internal inconsistencies are readily repairable. Resolve the institutional and grant-history questions before relying on those claims in the CNR–RSE application.
